offers a network of centres where trained mediators offer their service to divorcing or separation couples and we know that many of these mediators are happy to work with grandparents and extended family members. This site contains a full list of local branches and we hope that you will find this useful.

We are an organisation dedicated to help parents and their families continue to provide the love, care and support that their children need after separation- no matter how the parents might feel about each other, we can provide emotional practical and legal support.

Jewish Unity for Multiple Parenting

JUMP strives to improve parent-child relationships from a religious, social and legal perspective for those parents who find themselves in this heartbreaking situation. Post Adoption Centre
The Post-Adoption Centre (PAC), a registered charity which provides advice, support and information for all parties to adoption. For further details contact Post-Adoption Centre, 5 Torriano Mews, Torriano Avenue, London NW5 2RZ PAC offers a range of services and training courses for anyone affected by adoption, including adoptive parents, birth parents and other birth relatives and adopted adults. A daily advice line, staffed by qualified and experienced counsellors, operates on 0870 777 2197 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 10.00am and 1.00pm and on Thursdays between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Prison Advice & Care Trust

We provide practical on-the-ground support for families at several prisons across the South of England, including family-friendly visitors’ centres at prisons, children’s play areas inside prisons, and ‘first night in custody’ support for new inmates.  We are currently developing a kinship care support service for grandparents affected by the imprisonment of one of their adult children

Talk To Your Baby Talk To Your Baby is a campaign run by the National Literacy Trust to encourage parents and carers to talk more to children from birth to three. Talking to young children helps them become good communicators, which is essential if they are to do well at school and lead happy, fulfilled and successful lives.

Parent Centre
If you would like to know something about the education system, such as what is meant by "Key Stage 1", "Key Stage 2" etc, as well as what you can do to help with your grandchildren's schooling, have a look at this excellent website with most of the answers. Many primary schools welcome assistance from grandparents who ar happy to go into school to listen to children reading, so it may be well worthwhile contacting your local primary school head teacher to see if this is possible.

The Basic Skill Agency
Learning with Grandparents is a new campaign from the Basic Skills Agency. It aims to raise standards of basic skills amongst children aged 5-11 by involving grandparents in supporting their grandchildren's learning. There are currently around 13 million grandparents in the UK. In the past two generations, the number of children cared for by grandparents has jumped from 33% to 82% - with more than a third of grandparents spending the equivalent of three days a week caring for their grandchildren. The campaign, launched during Grandparent's Week, will: · Show schools how they can support grandparents in assisting their grandchildren with learning · Encourage grandparents to actively support their grandchildren's learning - whether they are spending a lot of time together or a little.

'Parents in Touch' is an educational information site for people with children of all ages. It explains all the schooling terminology, gives information on teaching methods, subject matter and advice on how parents can help. It offers: Guidance through all stages of education and child development; Advice by highly experienced professionals in child care, child development and education; A forum for parents; Answers to the questions that all parents ask; Resources for parents and teachers; Worksheets, SATS and other exam papers.
