Under five's Project
WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT GRANDPARENTS?
Did you know that 82% of children are regularly cared for by their grandparents?
Many of these grandchildren are of pre-school age and to reflect the wider role of grandparents we have innovative projects such as Grandparent and Toddler groups in Essex and Hertfordshire.
Grandparents may be the full time carers for their pre-school grandchildren. Many grandparents may be caring for their preschool grandchildren whilst parents work and may also child mind other pre-school children; we welcome them all to our group.
If a parent is about to return to work and wants to visit our group along with grandparent and grandchild we also welcome them to our group.
We aim to provide a safe environment for grandparents and their pre school grandchildren to meet with others. In an informal setting we endeavour to offer a satisfying experience for both grandparents and their grandchildren.
Although grandparents are responsible for their grandchildren during the sessions, we aim to provide age appropriate activities for the children, to promote their learning and development. We arrange visits form other organisation such as health visitors or the library in an effort to create a group that is right for the local community.
Our groups meet on a weekly basis (usually term time) and are run by Grandparents' Association volunteers. We do however encourage grandparents to also become involved in the running of the group and voice their needs, we value their contribution.
