Hendon meeting for new support group for Jewish grandparents

A new support group for Jewish people who are being denied contact with their grandchildren is meeting every six weeks in Hendon, under the auspices of the Grandparents Association.

Group organiser, Lorraine Bushell, said: “We offer friendship and support in a safe, non-judgemental environment in which people can discuss their issues with others who sadly are in a similar situation.  The idea began some years ago when living in the Midlands and having difficulties seeing my own grandchildren.  I realised that friends did not understand the pain I was feeling.  From not being able to hold my grandchildren in my arms when they were babies to missing all the milestones in their lives, was like bereavement. Then I contacted the Grandparents Association and spoke to an understanding voice on their helpline.  I began to realise that these issues also affect people in the Jewish community and having returned to London I decided to set up a support group in my own area.” The next meeting takes place on Wednesday 12th December at 2.30pm in Hendon.
