The Big Lunch is back for its second year, how will you get involved?

The Grandparents’ Association aims to improve relationships across the generations and so is keen to support ‘The Big Lunch’ initiative, an Eden project which aims to bring communities together.  On Sunday 18th July communities across the UK will be celebrating neighbourliness by eating lunch together, in the middle of their streets, around tower blocks and on patches of common ground. 

It’s a chance for different generations and backgrounds to listen to each other and share stories, skills and interests. The Big Lunch is the start of a journey into rebuilding our communities. They call this phenomenon ‘human warming’.  

In 2008, up to a million people, in every kind of community all across the UK, took part in over 8,000 lunches.  After last year over 80% said they feel closer to their neighbours and are planning future events so we at the Grandparents’ Association think it’s a great idea – if you want to find out more visit http://www.thebiglunch.com/ and if you’d like to raise fund for the Grandparents’ Association as part of this then please Download a one off giving form

The Big Lunch aims to help strengthen neighbourhoods and promote social cohesion.  It began life as a wild seed at The Eden Project.  The Grandparents’ Association is pleased to promote the Big Lunch, believing that the world can get better and become safer through communities working together, with nature, optimism and common sense, to tackle local issues.

The Big Lunch website is packed full of information to help you to plan your Big Lunch step by step.  It’s got the inspiration and resources to make it as simple and fun as possible.  Pop in your postcode and you can search for existing Big Lunches in your area or add your own to our Big Lunch map.

Spread the word
Tell your friends, family, colleagues and community about The Big Lunch and encourage them to get involved.  We have leaflets and posters to download from our website to help and you can join us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter 'GrandparentsAssn' and be inspired by Big Lunch stories on our blog.
